Greek MythologyAge: 13+ Time: 11:00 - 11:50 Location: Class Fee: $15 Material Fee: $10 | Class Description Each week we'll read a few myths about a different Greek God or Goddess, and discuss them within the context of the culture and beliefs at the time. The goal here is fun, informal discussions that are interesting and informative without being too structured. Markers, pencil crayons, blank paper, and coloring pictures of each week's mythology subject will be available for kids who want to draw or color while we talk (but no pressure for those who don't want to). I'll provide a folder for each kid with some info sheets covering whatever we discuss that week, and for them to collect their drawings/colored pages of each God or Goddess. PLEASE NOTE: This class is for teens only, as some of the subjects discussed have more adult themes (Greek deities were not known for their chastity or monogamy.) If you think your kid can't handle discussions that will likely touch on sexual references, you may not want them in this class. Obviously I plan to keep the discussions from focusing solely on the sexual aspects, or devolving into unnecessary smut, but some of these references are unavoidable. Elections, Let's Talk About It!Age: 13+ Time: 1:00 - 1:50 Location: Class Fee: $10 Material Fee: None | Class Description It's an election year and what better way to experience it along with the adults around them than dive right in to having those learning conversations in a safe and supportive environment. This class will use Mint and Bloom's six newly released unit studies around the election in an age appropriate manner. This class will be more focused on deep discussion and connection in order to encourage teens to strengthen those critical thinking skills and have gracious and thought provoking conversations with their peers in what is sure to be one of the more contentious years in presidential election history. We will do our best to remain grounded in factual information and stay focused on humanity. In order to ensure that the youth are committed to these ideals we begin class by developing together a standard classroom commitment that we will then ask them all to sign so that we can hold each other accountable. This class is based on a secular eclectic and social justice focused curriculum so please be sure to check out Mint and Bloom prior to signing up to ensure that it is a curriculum you feel comfortable letting your child explore. Do you know how to play capture the flag? How many ways do you know how to jump rope? Have you ever been part of a human knot? Do all of this and more at Outdoor Games! This class will be outdoors so children should be able to stay with the group and stay cool in competitive environments. Dress for being outdoors and don't forget to bring water!
