Spring Class Offerings at Foster Community Center

Spring classes will be held on Tuesdays 3/29/22 to 5/17/22 with a makeup day on 5/24/22 if needed. All classes are 8 weeks unless otherwise indicated in the class descriptions. Classes are in partnership with the Lansing Parks and Rec Dept. and will be held at the Foster Community Center, 200 N Foster Ave, Lansing, MI 48912.

This is NOT a drop-off program, children need to be accompanied by an adult and that adult is to stay in the building or on the grounds while the child is in class.

**Note about Covid: We receive a lot of questions asking about mask requirements. We are following all legal mandates as required by the City of Lansing. Currently, the City is not requiring masks to be worn by the public inside their buildings. The City could revert back to mask requirements at any time. Please read the DICE Rules and Guidelines for Foster Community Center for more information.

All Class Fees listed here are for ONLINE registration through the Lansing City Parks and Rec Website. You may register with the City of Lansing in person or over the phone, but the Class Fee will be $5 more.

Registration Process

Pre-Register by clicking the link under the class description below that you would like to register for. This will take you to a form to signup for that class. Pre-Registering allows us to plan ahead, for example, if a class hits capacity we may be able to add teaching assistants to increase capacity. Pre-Registering also allows teachers to monitor their waitlist and communicate with those families directly. The city maintains a waitlist for Registration but it is not easily accessible. If a class is full we encourage you to get on the waitlist, by selecting “Notify me when Available.” For more instructions on how to join the waitlist, please read this article from signup.com. Additional assistance can be requested by emailing info@homeschoollansing.com. Pre-Registering is not mandatory, but is recommended, and does not reserve your seat for the class, you are not considered Registered until you Register through the City of Lansing and payment is made.

Open Registration will begin with the City of Lansing around March 15. Please follow this link to Register once Registration is open. Payment will be made for the class at this time. If you do not have an account with the City of Lansing, please sign up for an account at this link. You may sign up for an account ahead of registration. The Refund Policy can be found in the current Lansing Living Guide (page 5). If you have questions about creating an account or registering through the City’s website, please call the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office at (517) 483-4277.

Volunteering

At this time, we do not require volunteer hours. We know that everyone is going through a different phase of life. We know that most people, if they are able, are more than happy to help out. This program can not run without the army of parent volunteers that chip in to keep things flowing. Most of the volunteer positions revolve around setting up and cleaning up the community room. Please click the link below to sign up for volunteer spots.

Adulting Sim for Teens

Do you live with a smarty-pants tween or teen (age 12 and up) who thinks they have what it takes to survive as an adult by their wits and current knowledge? Then sign them up for this simulated “adulting” class which will allow them to ‘walk the talk’ . . . or at least pretend to, anyway. In class, students will pretend to assume the responsibilities of an independent adult who is responsible for finding employment, housing, and transportation. But, the “fun” doesn’t stop there — as you *real* adults already know. Students will also engage in class discussions about responsibilities of paying bills, caring for pets/children, budgeting their time and finances as well as health and hygiene choices.

✱SPECIAL NOTE: All students who sign up for this class will need access to the internet in order to research employment, housing, and transportation options. Please supervise your children online as needed.
