Art Doll MakingAge: 13+ Time: 10:00 – 10:50 Location: Class Fee: $15 Material Fee: $15 | Class Description Several years ago I made a collection of little “goth dollies” for a local store (Deadtime Stories in REO Town). They sold relatively well and were popular with teens. They were simple and rather quick to make, so I figured I could provide a selection of fabrics, yarns, paints, beads, trimmings, and the tools needed, and walk the kids through the process of making their own little ornamental art dolls. While the ones I made were in the creepy-cute style, they could look like literally anything – there are no limits beyond one’s own imagination (and the materials on hand). I would bring in my sewing machine (which is a very basic model) and could sew the basic doll shapes for the kids that they design and cut out on their own, and then they would stuff the dolls, hand sew them closed, and then paint/sew/glue on the details and create little outfits and accessories for their dolls. Over the course of 8 weeks, assuming they don’t mess around too much, each kid should be able to complete 3 small dolls. Fun activities highlight the importance of being a team player. ***Material Fee is optional and may change**** The Material Fee is for a workbook that students can work out of. Workbooks will be kept with the instructor between classes, but will be sent home with students at the end of the term to finish up any material we didn’t have time to cover in class. The final cost to print the workbooks will be based on the total number of workbooks that are ordered. Optionally, anyone who would like to print their own workbook and put it in a binder is welcome to do that instead of paying a material fee. Please email the instructor if you plan to provide your own workbook and the pdf will be sent to you. Laptops are provided to the class. If your student plans to bring their own laptop, please email the instructor so that the class size can be increased to accomodate more students as the limitation is in the number of computers available. If a student is using a DICE Laptop it is highly recommended that they bring a flash drive to save their files.
