Community WorkoutAge: 11 to adult Time: 10:00 - 10:50 Class Fee: $16 Material Fee: $5 | Class Description Whether you're in a constant battle with your phone to get in your steps or you're trying to improve your sports performance, join me for a morning in the gym! This class is for middle school to adult. Bring your own mats and medium-heavy dumbbells. We'll stretch, do a bit of weights and abs, and jog or walk a few laps around the gym or outdoors. At the end of class, we can play a mellow game of ultimate frisbee, kickball, or something else that seems fun. Everyone is welcome to bring their own ideas for class or just come and walk. If no adults enroll, I'll take the class in a slightly more top down direction and throw in some tag. I'll return to teaching outdoor games in the spring, but let's not let winter take away our edge! I will bring a variety of family games for students to use. I will bring some cooperative as well as competitive games. Students are also welcome to bring their favorite games from home. Some of the games I will bring will include: Uno, Yatzee, Sorry, Chess, Ticket to Ride, Race to the Treasure, Game of the States and others. Win or lose, we will do our best to treat everyone with kindness and respect.
Although not strictly required, some ability to read will help with many of the games. I will be available to help students learn new games, sort out the rules and form groups, but students will mostly need to be able to play independently.

Each class I'll read the book then we will have a craft or activity and a lively conversation that relates to another subject such as geography, science, literacy, history or social studies. This is meant to be an indepth study that encouraged a deeper appreciation for literacy and the joy of learning through the exploration of picture books. Therefore we will study a total of two picture books, four weeks on each book. Although it might seem repetitive to read the same book four times this practice helps young children develop active listening and encourages critical thinking. Students will start learning basic crochet stitches by making cotton wash cloths using a variety of stitches. For example, if folds are done sloppily, the end project will look incorrect or not work at all. Please consider this when deciding if this class would be enjoyable or frustrating for your child. * Origami is the art of Japanese paper folding. Students will use squares of colorful paper and transform them into animals and objects by using only folding techniques. No prior origami experience is necessary to join this class. In each class, students will create an origami masterpiece to take home. We will start with simpler projects and progress to more difficult projects as skill levels allow. At the end of the term, students will be sent home with a small kit of origami paper and instructions so they can continue to practice at home. We’ll read examples of different kinds or writing, play games with words and storytelling, and write short pieces to share with our friends. Handwriting, spelling, and mechanics knowledge will not be important but students should be able to write sentences that they can read aloud later.
