We Need You! Help Make This Year a Success by Volunteering to Teach
We wanted to thank every person who took the time to take the survey we put out on Monday!
We really appreciate everyone who has been a part of the DICE Community so far and we would not be where we are without you. The Board is excited for the chance to offer more classes to our members at this new location and increase the availability of our classes. With that opportunity also comes an increased need for volunteers. Based on the results of the survey if we do not get more teachers we will have a limited capacity for our classes this coming fall semester/year. We will not be able to offer enough classes to support the number of people that want to attend based on the survey. We do not want to have to mandate volunteering. Our most immediate need is having enough teachers to fill all of the classrooms we now have available. We need at least 15 more teachers to be able to attempt accommodating the numbers we received. There are likely even more people who want to take Tuesday Classes besides those on the survey so we are currently looking at a very limited capacity based on demand.
We wanted to outline the role of teaching in this email to help make it more clear and seem less intimidating. We had many people answer “unsure” when we asked if they were going to teach. Hopefully this outline will help ease any concerns those people may have. We are also including a list of classes that people said they would like to see offered in case those who were unsure just needed ideas of things to teach.
If you have any questions about teaching please email us at info@dicemichigan.org and we would be more than happy to help you with those questions! We want as many members as possible to join in the fun of Tuesday Classes but we need your help to make that happen!!
A Teacher’s main responsibility is to provide education on teacher selected topics to kids who attend Tuesday Classes. You get to choose what topic you will be teaching. Pick something that interests you, your child(ren), or even host a social hour or less structured class. The possibilities are endless and if you are unsure of what to teach but would like to teach, reach out and we can help you come up with an idea if you did not see something that interests you in the list below!
Teaching comes with great perks!
- If your children are in the class you teach they get to join that class for free.
- You get early class registration for your children before anyone else gets a chance to sign-up. You will get to pay to register your child(ren) for a class in every hour you would like them to attend. This is a huge perk because you do not have to worry about getting a spot in the class they want to take. Teaching ensures the easiest registration possible and makes the biggest impact on helping Tuesday Classes be a success.
- You will receive a portion of the class fee at the end of the semester (we keep a portion to cover rental fees). The amount you get will vary based on what you decide to charge for the class fee and how many kids are in your class.
Requirements for this role:
- Foster a positive classroom environment.
- Provides resources needed related to selected teaching topics. You can charge a class material fee which goes towards covering the cost of these materials. *Examples of materials needed for class include glue sticks, markers, getting copies made, providing craft supplies, etc.
- Fill in the provided attendance log.
- Monitor the door to ensure kids do not leave the classroom during class period unless escorted by the teacher, or teacher assistant, and that kids do not leave at the end of class until a designated adult is present (kids 8 and under).
- Report any concerns to the Teacher Lead or Class Organizer.
- This role requires a background check to be completed.
We will be sending out a form to submit class ideas on July 10th that will be open until the 16th. Start thinking about the awesome classes you could teach now, we can’t wait to see them all.
Thank you for helping us make this year a success!
